# DocBastion changelog

The version lives in `VERSION` (one line, `major.minor.patch`) and is stamped into the exe, the MSI and the update
feed from there. Every change session bumps it: a new capability is a minor step, a fix is a patch step, a change
that breaks files or settings is a major step.

## 1.8.0 — 2026-10-11

- Zoom buttons (minus, percentage, plus) in the toolbar. Ctrl+wheel and Ctrl +/-/0 now zoom only the open document
(images use their own zoom, PDFs their viewer); the window itself, sidebar and toolbar no longer scale.

## 1.7.1 — 2026-10-11

- The installed copy refreshes its file icons at start, so an update shows the new icons without opening the File types panel.

## 1.7.0 — 2026-10-11

- New DocBastion logo (a document with a castle-wall top edge) for the exe, shortcuts and Add/remove programs.
- Document icons: every file type registered with DocBastion shows its own icon (page, label such as PDF / PNG / JSON,
a picture, note, play or Aa glyph) with a small DocBastion badge in the bottom right corner. Made by
`scripts/make-icons.js`, compiled into the exe, written to `%LocalAppData%/DocBastion/icons` on registration.
Files whose default was set with Open with > Always keep the application icon; choose DocBastion under Settings >
Default apps for the per-type icons.

## 1.6.1 — 2026-10-11

- Image viewer: no more thumbnails of the whole folder (slow). The side panel says how many more images the folder
has and offers Previous / Next; the arrow keys still work.

## 1.6.0 — 2026-10-11

- Software update button in the toolbar: shows the installed version; when a newer one exists it turns into
"Update to x.y.z". Click it for the update panel (installed / newest version, release notes, Check now,
  Update and restart, automatic-update switch).

## 1.5.0 — 2026-10-11

- The sidebar can be resized: drag its right edge wider or narrower (double-click resets it). The width is remembered.

## 1.4.0 — 2026-10-11

- HTML files open like code: the source with line numbers and colours on the left, the page on the right, with a
Source / Split / Preview switch. Pages that build themselves with a script (Vite, React) show blank in the preview,
so the bar says scripts are off and offers Open in browser.

## 1.3.1 — 2026-10-11

- Fix: images opened as a blank page because the hidden update bar pushed the content into a zero-height row.

## 1.3.0 — 2026-10-11

- Image viewer: Previous / Next through the images of the folder, thumbnails and an information panel (size,
dimensions, camera, taken, exposure, GPS with a map link) on the right, fit / 1:1 / zoom / rotate.
- Analyze image: reads the text in a picture with the Windows OCR engine. Web addresses, e-mail addresses, phone
numbers, coordinates and street addresses found in it are links: browser, mail program, phone, Google Maps.
- Automatic updates: at start the app asks app.winbastion.com for the newest version. An installed copy downloads
it, checks its SHA-256 and installs it silently, then restarts; with unsaved changes it waits and offers a button.
- `VERSION` file as the single source of the version number; `scripts\publish.ps1` builds, uploads and announces a
  release on app.winbastion.com.

## 1.2.0 — 2026-10-11

- Code view: code and data files open as two panes, the raw file with line numbers on the left and a
syntax-coloured copy on the right (JSON pretty-printed), with a Raw / Split / Formatted switch. 41 languages.
- The sidebar tree scrolls instead of running off the bottom of the window.

## 1.1.0 — 2026-10-11

- File types panel: choose per extension which files list DocBastion under "Open with"; Select all / none;
a button to the Windows Default apps page. 93 extensions: documents, text and data, code, images, fonts, audio,
video. Fonts, audio and video open in tabs.
- Per-user MSI installer (`scripts\make-installer.ps1`); its last page offers the File types panel; uninstall
  removes the "Open with" entries.
- Ctrl+F4 closes the tab, like Ctrl+W.

## 1.0.0 — 2026-10-11

- DocView becomes DocBastion and joins the WinBastion family. Settings and backups of DocView are carried over.
